Former World Cup icon Clint Mathis played for the Real Salt Lake reserves in their 3-0 victory against BYU in the inaugural game at the renovated Stadium at South Field in Provo on Tuesday, as part of an agreement to train with RSL ahead of his anticipated return to Europe.
The former RSL midfielder is not expected to join the team again during the current MLS transfer window, but such a move might be possible. The team has three available roster spots, Mathis is out of contract after playing for Ergotelis in Greece - the Los Angeles Galaxy still own his MLS rights - and he has remained friends with coach Jason Kreis.
