Posted: 1:17 PM- Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando has been named the Major League Soccer player of the month, after posting three shutouts in four games in July.
“It feels great that our defense - not just me, not just our back four, but our entire team’s commitment to the defensive side of the ball - has been recognized, and I’m grateful to be so honored on the team’s behalf,” Rimando said.
Rimando is the first RSL player to win the award since striker Jeff Cunningham in August of 2006. His efforts have helped RSL climb to the top of the MLS Western Conference standings for the first time in its history, with a 7-6-6 record - the first winning record ever for the fourth-year team.
